In 2014, Dr. Chris Stone offered LEAF a free, long-term lease on a half-acre of land behind her Mission Valley Veterinary Clinic. Her generosity allowed LEAF to install a food garden in the heart of Fremont. Volunteers propagate fruits and veggies from seed, transplant the seedlings into the garden, and then harvest the veggies for donation to local food banks.
LEAF C.R. Stone Garden is an ideal venue to teach adults about regenerative farming practices that build healthy soil , increase biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and to let kids get their hands dirty looking for worms and bugs while learning why these creatures are so important in the garden. The bees streaming in and out of our hives offer lessons about the value of pollination, while our beekeeping classes teach people how to keep them healthy and productive.
Stone Garden is funded by grants and donations, revenue through classes, field trips, seedling sales and renting out the garden for events.
Stone Garden is currently not open to the public on a drop in basis due to COVID restrictions. If you would like to visit us, please make an appointment by emailing us at info@fremontleaf.org.
Location: Please note, there are two LEAF sites near each other. LEAF Stone Garden is behind Mission Valley Veterinary Clinic which is located at 55 Mowry Avenue near Mission Blvd. LEAF Urban Garden is located adjacent to the Vet Clinic, the front gate is near the entrance of the Vet Clinic.
Beware: Apple Maps leads you to some apartments on Mowry Avenue. We have tried to get the mapping corrected but we have not had any luck. Please search for Mission Valley Veterinary Clinic and not the address.
Parking: Please parallel park to Mowry Ave to the side of the Vet Clinic. Parking in front of the Clinic is for their clients only.
