Acer palmatum. Deciduous broad leaved shrubs or trees native to Asia. There are many species and cultivars. Leaves are palmate with 5, 7, or 9 lobes. In their natural habitat they are an understory plant preferring part to full shade. Green cultivars are more sun tolerant. Leaves turn red or yellow in late summer or early fall, then go dormant in the winter.

- Additional instructions: Leaves turns oranges and yellow in late summer and remains dormant until spring.
- Pruning instructions: Not necessary except to remove dead branches.
Common Problems
- Sunburn: Maples are naturally an understory tree. The leaves can show signs of sun or wind burn with burnt tips. Their bark is thin so can be sun scaled especially when young. There is not enough foliage to shade the trunks.
